But on thing has taken the cake:

J&V ~ First Anniversary!

I love her so much! Even though work and study keep things hectic, we always find time to hang out and enjoy all things good.

Ok, so this semester is moving quite fast!

Projects!

1. Producing/Engineering the Dwayne Monteiro EP:
A rap/hip hop project inspired by Tribe Called Quest, Lupe Fiasco, Jay Z, NAS, Mos Def etc.
Currently working on the main track 'One of Those Nights' - a party tune inspired by escapades at Ric's Bar in Brisbane.

Producing is a whole new world, just like everyone describes - you do become an amateur psychologist! But I really need to get motoring with the arranging/composing otherwise we'll fall behind!

2. Concert Recording!
Next week I will be leading my first concert recording - a lunchtime brass concert. I'm really hoping it's in the vein of Dave Douglas' Brass Ecstacy ensemble. However, betcha it's not...
Oh well, it will be a challenge (burning the CD correctly :S)! But I shall attend the rehearsal and prepare like a pregnant mother. Must keep it clean and real (the recording that is...).

3. Exploration Into Live Recording
$$ ~ I need it.
Mics & Pres + Converters + Laptop + Stands + DIs = Me becoming RVG. Anyone want to donate some gear? Need to earn loads of money - NOW!!!

4. Songs In Sierra is back in business!
The band is getting back together to play some standards and write new stuff. Looking for a drummer though. Who can help??? No metal drummers please...

5. Sweet FA
And finally, I am composing for my first feature length film! A film about Matty getting stuck in Beaudesert with his high school mates..will he be back in time to spend time with his folks and steal back his car from a bastard of a policeman? All will be revealed in due time...e.g. a few weeks!

And that's this week's wrap up from the market.

That's all for this week - will blog more in the next few weeks.

Mmmm off for a coffee...

[MCM]Kodiak Garciahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08384903530104153872noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7572296934679394157.post-40224035608781002112009-05-24T06:13:00.000-07:002009-05-24T06:18:37.517-07:00Many Sets.It's late again.

Had a great day with V. Got to be the subject in her photoshop project.

That new bridge from the city to GoMA is the ugliest thing I've ever seen. It's as if they've given Anna Bligh a pencil and some crack and let her loose.

What's goin on Brizbayne?

Just trying to get through this semester with a lovely GPA of 4.3 etc.

Looking forward to my lesson on thursday. Even though I can't really play piano for shit.

Until then.

[MCM]Kodiak Garciahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08384903530104153872noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7572296934679394157.post-79297148483400861252009-05-19T09:51:00.000-07:002009-05-19T09:57:11.388-07:00They Will All Be Gangstas.So.

Its nearly 3am and I'm doing my MT1 worksheet. Jolly.

They're all going to laugh at me. But I have to stick with it. I must do what I was meant to do.

FIESTA. I don't know how we're gonna pull it off. Who the fuck has an ABN? Maybe Jay-Z.

My favorite quote:

"I'm not a businessman. I'm a business man!!! Now let me handle my business, damn!"

Amazing.

4 is the number of the semester.

[MCM]Kodiak Garciahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08384903530104153872noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7572296934679394157.post-27025261315376007542009-05-19T04:21:00.000-07:002009-05-19T04:28:25.800-07:001.Work today. Got a pay rise. :)

Will be getting some piano lessons hopefully.

Decided to make it my Major.

I have to go after what I want.

[MCM]Kodiak Garciahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08384903530104153872noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7572296934679394157.post-43030387787669688282009-05-17T05:49:00.000-07:002009-05-17T06:04:53.679-07:00The CrunchAnd so I have to discuss my technical research paper tomorrow and I'm completely fucked.

Where has this weekend gone to? I can't even remember what I did. Bought a wallet that will crumble upon contact with heat. Geez.

I haven't been inspired yet this weekend. Maybe more through visual art than music.

I really can't wait for next semester. I'm kind of turning on myself now - I kept preaching that it is essential to be doing theory and aural, however now, I'm lucky that I don't have take it again next semester. Theory I'll miss a bit. Aural has just been a waste of time. Hmm we'll get down to some recording next semester and be put under the magnifying glass.

I hope I can hold myself together.

I thought of an interesting topic to address further on in my studies. Its a society-orientated issues that marries with music technology.

"What associations, assumptions and expectations does society marry with the field of 'Music Technology'"

I guess that whenever my parents are talking in circles and asked what I'm studying, they say, "Well, he's doing sound engineering...". Fuck off. Maybe its because I don't really tell them what I really do. But I think there is an image of a roadie-esque man fiddling with knobs at a rock concert. There is a certain psychology to music technology. I can't fully explain it yet. I think I've been giving myself hints over the years but now recognise the mentality behind this field.

Final words: You are still in control when they are in control.

[MCM]Kodiak Garciahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08384903530104153872noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7572296934679394157.post-63616993605152796262009-05-15T05:41:00.000-07:002009-05-15T05:53:00.412-07:00Feeling FreeI'm don't think I'm quite ready for academic research and writing yet. That's my main concern at the moment. I guess it is going to be a part of my life for the next few years.

Have booked some studio time to track some things with Shaun. It'll be good to get back to what we used to do at QACI. I really want to go back to QACI and have a listen to the JBL's. And become acquainted again with the beloved C24.

I acquired 'Songs From The Labyrinth' today, featuring Sting (Vocals, Lute) and Eden Karamazov (Lute). Beautiful performance with some recorded songs from the concert. Hopefuly its from the concert V and I went to. That was beautiful. The roof was a sky. Must also get a recording of Slava Grigorian playing.

Also, watched an intimate interview between Diana Krall and Sir Elton John this evening. She played a bucket load of songs, which was wonderful!!! She speaks about 'feel' - I think this is really important as she describes herself as 'not a singer-songwriter'. She reinvents songs and re-tells them. It relates to my theory classes at the QCM - reharmonisation and just rearranging pieces harmonically to suit what you want the piece to produce.

All exciting thoughts.

Wagamama was great :)

Must get practicing for Youth Musicians on Sunday. I must stop neglecting my guitar.

[MCM]Kodiak Garciahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08384903530104153872noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7572296934679394157.post-31623707313723861642009-05-14T04:11:00.000-07:002009-05-14T04:29:33.401-07:00The Wrap Up From The MarketEnded a fairly good week today.

Mixed results, new info and swearing in the studio.

I've found that I'm really digging concert recording and doing my own mixes. I've still got a while to go before I'm truly aware of my decisions, but for the moment I'm quite proud.

New gear is coming next semester - all the regular gangstas: Neve, SSL, API and the ICON.
Although there is something very charming about the DM1000...hrrmmm.

I should probably start reading about this Max MSP thing that Reilly composed with. I think Lloyd Barrett at QUT showed us in a lecture last year.

Miles and Fleet Foxes constantly inhabit my mind. Man, they're definitely keepers. Thanks Vron for hooking me on the Fleet Foxes!!!

Must get ready for the fiesta.

[MCM]Kodiak Garciahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08384903530104153872noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7572296934679394157.post-77296974163888194932009-05-13T07:00:00.000-07:002009-05-13T07:09:47.750-07:003 YearsCurrently completing my BMusTech at the QLD Conservatorium. I'm slightly swinging towards a cross-major involving contemporary arrangment. Production is what I predict for myself.

My first major project of the year is producing/recording/mixing Stephanie Carmichael's demo CD. Looking forward to produce my first pop-orientated project.

[MCM]Kodiak Garciahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08384903530104153872noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7572296934679394157.post-1581996560195757662009-05-13T06:54:00.000-07:002009-05-13T07:00:11.898-07:00First.First entry.

Here's to reading what I do in the next 99 years.

Projects.
Music.
Collaboration.
Ideas.

Expect it.Kodiak Garciahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08384903530104153872noreply@blogger.com0
